Chocolate Hemp Smoothie Bowl

October 2, 2017

If I happen to post a new recipe every day for the next ten days, I apologize in advance for bombarding your inboxes. Ok, that’s a bit over the top, but I am currently doing everything I can to distract myself essentially every waking moment. And time in the kitchen as well as time on the computer are what’s keeping me busy.

10 days.

How am I going to make it ten more days?!

I will make this short and sweet because I am so on edge I am not even sure I am thinking straight. I can barely eat, I can barely sleep. I try to breathe, and I try to do everything I can to stay distracted, but the anxiety is one I have never experienced in my life.

In 10 days, our perfect little baby is due. Whether he will be ours forever is completely out of our hands. And that is making me a mess.

The room is ready, the clothes are folded, diapers, wipes, everything we need to get through our first week with him. We dream we hope, and we pray, but we have no firm answers and no guarantees. I thought our years of struggle with fertility was tough, but the feelings I have felt over the past months we have been on the adoption journey have no doubt been the toughest of all.

Right now, all I can ask is for prayers. Prayers that I make it through these next days, prayers for the brave woman who is considering us to be the parents of her angel, and most of all, for little baby S. All I have done to this point is dreamed of our life with him, and I can only hope and pray that we won’t have to know a life without him.

So the perks of needing distractions is that I end up in the kitchen playing a lot. And my friends at Natierra made my day when they sent me a big box of superfood goodness recently. If you don’t know anything about this company, you need to. Every bag of their superfoods sold, feeds a child. And I am here to celebrate the fact that they have surpassed 310,000 meals given! That melts my heart and gives so much more purpose to supporting them as a company.

So in my big box of goodness was chia seeds, cacao,  hemp seeds, pink sea salt but BEST of all: dark chocolate covered chia seeds and hemp seeds. So right away I thought: smoothie bowl! What a perfect topping for a smoothie bowl! A little bit of crunch is my favorite thing to bring to a smoothie bowl. Gotta have something to chew, right? Otherwise it’d just a be a smoothie.

Hemp seeds boast a number of health benefits, so adding them to your smoothie will give it even more power! So what I essentially do is make a hemp milk in the blender just before the rest of the ingredients are added. It comes out nice and smooth so you don’t have to deal with any pulp. I have a chocolate hemp milk recipe that I lvoe as well if you are interested. And not to forget, my Cinnamon Vanilla Hemp Milk recipe as well. Seriously, ready in minutes and so thick and creamy, but without a mess!

If you are missing out on the hemp seeds, don’t worry, you can typically find them at most grocery stores these days. And if you are lucky, you will also find Natierra’s Dark Chocolate Covered Hemp Seeds to make this bowl complete!

Natierra and I are teaming up for a fun giveaway over on Instagram. Win your choice of 4 Natierra products! Head on over to my Instagram account for more details!

Hello – do you choose not to list nutritional info? Just curious. Thanks so much,

Hi Kelly! I actually don’t. I was obsessed for years and years with all the numbers and eventually tossed it out and shifted to intuitive eating. I have plenty of readers who just plug in recipes to calorie calculators that will give all the info. Thanks!!

Wow, I never would have guessed cauliflower was in there. That kind of just blew my mind a bit! Sounds delish!

The cauliflower is undetectable. Big win!

Oh Lorie I will keep you in my prayers. What an emotional rollercoaster. I have had friends experience both the joys of adoption as well as disappointed hopes. One thing I will never, ever, forget {like ever, it was so profound to me}, was when our closest friends were leaving to be there for the birth of their adopted daughter. They had experienced the pain of an adoption that fell through and we asked how we could pray for them this time…the husband said, “Our greatest prayer and hope is that her biological parents decide they want to keep her and love her and cherish her. Our next greatest prayer is that if they don’t, we can show her the love she deserves and praise God for the gift of welcoming her into our family.” I was blow away by his selflessness. They longed for a child for so long. I still cry {and am right now} when I think about that. Adoption is such a beautiful thing, and I have no doubt that you will be an amazing mommy for your sweet baby boy. In the meantime, bring on a recipe every day!
